Simple and easy way of consuming spinach
with less spice and good taste is the Keerai
masiyal which is also called spinach gravy
Or mashed spinach.
INGREDIENTS:
Spinach – a bunch or 1/2 packet
Water – 1/4 cup
Salt- as needed
Asafetida powder -3/4 teaspoon
Rice flour – 1 teaspoon
Ghee-1 teaspoon
Mustard-3/4 teaspoon
Red chilies- 3 nos
Urad dal -1 teaspoon
Cumin- 1 teaspoon
METHODOLOGY:
1. Wash and chop the spinach finely. Cook them in 1/4 cup of water by adding asafetida powder and salt. Cover it with lid and cook for 5 mins.
2. Mash the spinach well with a masher and add rice flour paste to thicken the masiyal and turn off the flame.
3. Temper mustard, red chilies, urad dal and cumins in ghee and garnish on to the spinach.
Tastes great with rice, Dosa.
