Masala vadai (South Indian fritter)

A fritter which has got a a beautiful blend of dals and chilies and blended with onions and some spices that enhances the flavor of it.

Usually we use Chana dal for this masala vadai but this time I used mixed dal for making this one.

The dal contains thuvar dal, masoor dal, urad dal , black urad dal, Chana dal, and green moong dal.

Let me directly go through the recipe down here.

INGREDIENTS:

Mixed dal – 1 & 1/4 cup

Green chilies – 2 long

Turmeric powder -1/4 teaspoon

Garlic -2 to 3 cloves

Onion -1 big

Fennel seeds -2 teaspoons

Asafetida powder – 1/2 teaspoon

Salt as needed

Curry leaves – an arch

Mint leaves- 1/4 cup

Coriander leaves -1/4 cup

Oil – for frying

METHODOLOGY:

1. Soak the dal in warm water for two to three hours.

2. Then drain the water and add them in blender. Along with that add green chilies, garlic, 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds, turmeric, asafetida, salt and coarse grind them adding 2 tablespoons of water.

3. Add 1 teaspoon of fennel seeds, coriander leaves, mint leaves, curry leaves and onions.

4. Mix well and then make it as dumplings and flatten it as vadai and deep fry them on medium heat.
