Misal (Maharashtrian dish)


Green moong dal/chori-3 cups


Tomato-1 big

Coconut pieces-small cup

Ginger-1/4 piece

Garlic-3 cloves minced

Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp

Red chili powder-1/2tsp

Coriander powder -2tsp



Water-1/4 cup

Sev mixture-1/4 cup


Soak moong dal or chori overnight and then pressure cook with one whistle.

In a pan add oil and add chopped ginger,minced garlic and diced onion and tomato to it. Then add the coconut pieces and then sauté it for 3 mins and then blend it into a smooth paste.

Then add a teaspoon of oil in the same pan and add chopped onions to it.

Then add turmeric powder,salt,chili powder,coriander powder to it.

Then sauté it for 3 mins and add cooked moong dal.

then add the puréed paste to it. And add 1/4 cup of water to it. And cook for 3 more mins.

Hot misal is ready.

While serving in a bowl add the sev mixture and then add the misal on top of it and then layer mixture on top of it again and serve hot. It’s actually a good combination and generally served with pav. And raw onions and lemon. I served with roti.!

Served with methi Malai Paneer,mango vellapachadi ,misal and roti.!
